Life can get complicated, messy and overwhelming – especially in 2020! It is easy to get lost in the chaos of it all. Here’s how I am finding coordination through the chaos with ways to stay organized each day.
These simple things will keep you feeling less stressed and more in charge of your day-to-day activities – I know they do for me.
Delegate your responsibilities, slow down, Super Mom! Many times, we try to do it ALL. Recognizing that you need some help and being more mindful of delegating tasks to family members or outside services can help you breathe some air. An organized life means making a list of your daily, weekly, and monthly tasks and dishing them out to others as needed. Hello, housekeepers! With less on your plate, you’ll clear your mind and stay more focused on what you have in front of you.
Without schedules or deadlines, life tends to run in circles and brain fog can easily set in. Your time is precious, so use it wisely. Keeping things organized keeps you productive and efficient. By making schedules and setting attainable goals and deadlines, you will achieve so much more with the time you have. I have both a paper calendar and my phone calendar. I use the paper calendar for big overview things like vacations, school schedules, and holiday events. My phone calendar is the nitty gritty, dates/times/locations. I have found having a “family calendar” and separate ones for each of us allows me and my family to stay on top of our schedules better.
Don’t forget to write things down! Me and Post-its are best friends. We are only human – we forget! Especially when life is busy, it’s easy for little odds and ends to slip by. Being diligent about logging upcoming events, activities, milestones, birthdays and family gatherings will help you stay ahead and better prepared for them. Make use of your mobile device or get a physical planner (they are so fun to shop for!) to stay on track. Or be like me and stick a bright yellow post-it on everything!!
My #1 tip for this? Write it ALL down next to your bed – everything that is in your head! With all of your reminders in one spot, you can start and end your day by taking a glance at it, so tackling your to-do’s becomes much easier…and maybe even a little fun.
Next, let’s really start reducing clutter. A cluttered home leads to a cluttered life. Dedicating a short bit of time each day to putting everything back in its dedicated spot will help you stay on task – and saves time on cleaning escapades that derail your days. This is true for your kitchen, your pantry, your home office, your car, and even your closets! They sure do not stay organized on their own—it takes time and consistency.
The less clutter that surrounds you, the less cluttered and overwhelmed you will feel.
Finally, everything in your home should have a place, or a “home.” It is hard to stay on top of the items in your home if they do not have a specific spot to live in. Having a set location for your belongings will help keep your countertops clear and your floors and corners open, which in turn leaves quick spot cleaning a breeze.
Be sure to store items in their proper places and if they do not have a place – let’s find them one!
